5 days....

I’m escaping to Neverland. Yup, no hallucinogenic fairy dust here, that’s what I said.

In case you’re just now finding yourself educated concerning my impulsive move to Hawaii, you’ll find it helpful to not think too much-- it’s really very simple. We are currently living during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Now I’m not the best educated person on history (which might be a shame because my mom practically collects books on every historical event that interests her), but I’m going to consider myself lucky to have the small mundane job of assisting people buy stylish clothing. After all, the Great Depression left many starving in cardboard shacks. While I would like to have been able to leave this elementary job behind the soonest moment possible, life’s not turning out to be that easy.

While many individuals might find the task of deciding their future career as effortless as a single-item menu, I’ve not the submission for so definite a social norm. It amazes me how many people regret how their lives have turned out but yet they still think there’s a specific order to follow in life and any deviation from that expectation is unthinkable. I’ve followed steps one and two (general school for 13 years and college for another seven), but step three (get a career), I’ll pass on for now thanks! There’s only so long I can follow the rules before I start wondering if there’s more to life than Monopoly. So I’m ditching Park Place and setting sail for Candy Land. The Gum Drop Mountains are calling my name!

So thanks to the extreme kindness of a friend, I’ll be living in Hawaii for the next 10 months or so. (Which will be chronicled here.) Whether I like it or love it has yet to be determined but one thing is absolutely for certain: just for now I’m gonna put my toes in the sand and drink up a coconut (or three). Aloha Palekaiko!
